Just like human medicine, emergencies with animals can and do arise without warning. Almost without exception these cases are best seen at the surgery where we have the staff and equipment to deal with them. Within normal surgery hours we do ask that owners telephone ahead to let us know that an emergency is coming down to the surgery; this lets us have staff primed and and that suitable and possibly life-saving equipment will be ready to use upon arrival.
Out of hours we provide (like every vet does) an emergency service to deal with urgent problems. To contact the duty vet simply telephone the surgery on the normal number and your call will be diverted to the vet on duty.
Home Visits
Generally your pet is best seen at the surgery where all the necessary equipment and assistance is available. Home visits are considerably more expensive than a surgery appointment, and if you have transportation problems our staff can advise you of local taxi firms able to carry pets. However we can arrange home visits for routine treatments (e.g. vaccinations) or if it is time for your pet’s final farewell - please contact us for further details.
Please note that home visits are not available out of normal working hours.
Emergency Service
Castle Veterinary Centre, along with almost every other veterinary practice in the Nottingham City area, has been registered with VetsNow for our out of hours emergencies from October 1st 2003.
The benefits to clients are;

NO INCREASE in current out of hours charges.

all clinical notes transferred by fax immediately after treatment.

the service is available each weekday evening, Saturday afternoons, all day Sunday and Bank Holidays.

our vets will be wide awake during normal working hours!
This service, we believe, has many benefits for our clients. Having successfully shared our ‘On Call’ with other veterinary practices for the last 15 years, we feel that this new service will be as successful as our previous one.
VetsNow is situated within The PDSA premises at Dunkirk (operating entirely separate from The PDSA). VetsNow is run by a company entirely independent from The PDSA using fully trained and qualified staff, and is working with them by utilising the facilities that their establishments have to offer throughout the UK. Please note, it is important that you do not try to contact VetsNow by calling The PDSA at any time.
