Here we have a magnified image of a flea larvae as it emerges from its egg.

back to Fleas & Worms

The larvae undergoes three stages of development when it emerges from the egg. They shun light and will seek out the deepest layers of a carpet or shaded areas. The larvae feed on flea faeces and organic debris. Under ideal conditions the larvae will develop in 5 to 11 days, but this could take longer if the conditions are unfavourable.
