Misha Maloney

Misha Maloney, Pet Of The Month December 2010

Meet Misha, who is our Pet of the Month for December. She is a lovely little dog, with bright eyes and a mischievous character - but she only looks this good because her mum looks after her so well. Misha has a long-standing problem with her bladder; she suffers from crystals in her urine, which make her prone to bouts of cystitis. Things came to a head some years ago when she developed a bladder stone – and one morning she developed a blockage in her bladder. This is a potentially life-threatening problem, but fortunately her mum spotted her distress and rushed her straight down to us, and after an operation to remove the stone she bounced back.

Now urinary crystals in dogs can normally be controlled by use of a special diet, but part of Misha’s problem is that – very unusually - she has two different sorts of crystals, and this means that we have to test her urine every few months to see what’s happening. We control the crystals by adjusting her diet, but because the crystals change every so often we have to change her diet as well! But Misha takes all this without complaining - she is a great little dog and is worthy to be Pet of the Month! Well done Misha!
