Tommy Foulkes

Tommy Foulke, June 2009 Pet Of The Month

Tommy, a young domestic short haired cat, was brought in to see us here at Castle Veterinary Centre in April when his owner found a strange lump on his right side. Upon examination, vet Ewan McNeill found a pellet wound, with the pellet still being lodged under his skin, and advised immediate surgery. Surgery was scheduled for the next day to remove it. Ewan found that the pellet had tracked down below the first 2 layers of muscle on his body wall. The inner muscle layer was intact but very bruised, and the pellet was removed along with a large plug of tissue and hair. The small entry wound had now increased to a 10cm incision from the surgery. Following surgery, Tommy recovered quickly and his wound healed well without any problems.

He is now a ‘local celebrity’ after his story was published by the Nottingham Evening Post, and local Police are continuing to investigating this case.

Tommy continues to be a bright mischievous young cat despite his ordeal, and is a worthy winner of our Pet Of The Month for June!
