Archie Kitchen

After meeting Archie the Rat for the first time on the day of his routine castration, we never imagined that he would become such a regular visitor to the practice! Following his surgery Archie suffered post castration complications caused by his wound breaking down. This was caused by a profuse bacterial infection of E Coli, a bacteria known to be caused by faecal contamination.

He presented to us 2 days after surgery and at this time all was well. His problems began about a week later, when we saw him for his second check up. We made several attempts to clean the wound, and prescribed antibiotics with little success. We then had to perform a second surgical procedure to clean the wound, which then lead to regular visits for checks over the coming weeks.

Archie is now well on his way to a full recovery almost 13 weeks after his initial surgery. He is still having to take prescription antibiotics, but we’re hopeful that his infection will soon be cleared.
